The Australian national football team crashed out of the recently concluded 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup without a single victory as the team of Ange Postecoglou failed to make it past the group stages after losing to Germany and having to settle with draws against Chile and Cameroon.

Overall, it was not a memorable tournament for the Australian national side but there actually was a positive thing to take away for AngePostecoglou and his team.

On June 25 of 2017, Chile and Australia faced off for their FIFA Confederations Cup in a match that resulted in a 1-1 draw. Despite not being able to clinch a victory, this match was impressive for Australia as they managed to keep up with an outstanding performance from the Chilean players and actually took the lead in the 1st half as Australia´s James Troisi scored the opening goal of the match.

Chile would later go on to tie the match but nonetheless it was an impressive match for both national sides.

Following Australia´s exit from the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, AngePostecoglou had a few things to say concerning his views on the Australian team as well as their future.

¨What everyone sees and what I see are extreme parallels. There’s a little bit of a pack mentality and they say ‘how come we all see this when he sees something different´. I’ve tried to regenerate the squad, evolve the way we play, get us to a point where we are not afraid to take a backwards step. Maybe I’m wrong and everyone else is right, or maybe I’m right and people just can’t see it¨ Australia´s AngePostecoglou said.

The 51 year old tactician also added on saying that national sides such as Germany and Chile have players that are consistently performing in some of the best leagues in the world which significantly increases the quality of the national team but that Australia does not enjoy those same privileges but they still managed to stand their ground in some way or another.
